Speaking of straight pipes:
My friend Rick and I went looking for an I-beam this Saturday. Used
first, of course. I want to put together a walking crane/gantry
crane, it would just make my life a lot easier. Anyway, there's this
guy who works on engines (did some work for me) that I know only as
"dragster Bob." Well, Bob had his dragster up on stands and was
trying to start his new engine Saturday. That's the first time I've
ever seen one up close, and definitely the first time I've touched
one. We obviously lost most of a Saturday there.
In some respects, I was amazed how much noise that thing makes. In
other respects, I'm surprised it wasn't more. You don't hear it so
much with your ears as with your chest.
This is not a top-fuel dragster. It's alcohol powered, they said it
got mid 7 seconds or something, around 170 mph in a quarter.
