One thing that's inspiring me is seeing what people are are doing in
my other hobbies with this technology. There's a lot of people
automating control of their reef aquariums and checking parameters
like pH or changing light timers through the internet while on
vacation. There are a few sites out there with people building
remotely-operated submersibles that are computer controlled. This is
neat stuff and I'm always thinking of applications I'd like to play
with, but I realize programming is a hobby in and of itself. What I'd
like to do is get my feet wet and see if I enjoy it to the point that
I might tackle some larger projects for fun down the road. And any
digital displays would certainly be a number of years down the road.
Buying an off-the-shelf unit--even if it fit all my needs--just
wouldn't be as fun to me as making something from scratch and tweaking
it forever. I've found that any project that has reached completion
has outlived its usefulness! In this case, I'm just not sure where to
start.
