I have had an interest in embedded computing for a long time now, but
haven't yet had the chance (mostly time) to get into it for real.
QNX seems just a bit sparse to use as a desktop OS, and I'm not sure
how well it would work as one anyway. I've wanted to give FreeBSD a
shot for a while though, they are evidently much more stable than the
Linux kernels are.
I used AIX while I worked at IBM. You're right, it was pretty solid
and made much better use of hardware than Windows did.
One thing I've come to realize is that I am hooked on the
configurability of open-sourced operating systems. I use Gentoo right
now, and while that distribution has its faults you can configure
_everything_ in it.
