When I still had mine mounted in the back I used a piece of 1/4in rod
and slid it into a plastic tube mounted the tube and the rod slide
freely inside it. It just stiffened up the rod and didn't allow it to
bend. I imagine you have other issues than just running a straight
piece of linkage :-(
