At the risk of dating myself I can only recommend the normal procedure I 
used when trailing a Walker log, namely: unhitch the line at the stern, 
pay it out astern while hauling in the rotator then coil from that. You 
will find the wound-up coils in the line have unraveled by the time you 
reach the end. You can then re-clip and pay out the rotator again - or 
not, if you are merely storing it.
