Hi All,
Any opinions on this?

Just in fantasy land for a moment here.... I recently applied for a job
in Bowen, which i probably wont take even if I'm offered it because the
pay isn't really competitive, but it is nice to dream! In my fantasy
world I would totally be satisfied with having half the pay Im on now,
and being only 50NM from the whitsundays....
A 60 footer would fit the bill nicely, and in my holidays i would of
course nick over to new zealand for fresh green lipped muscles, or maybe
cruise around the coral sea ;-)
Is a boat this old practical at all? Yeah i know timber boats are
special, yeah i know they need to be surveyed by a specialist to make
sure they are sound.... but assuming it got a green light, what sort of
running costs are you looking at? 10k/year? 20k? More? Im not
talking about the cost of equipment, updates, sails, hardware etc...
but things specific to a boat this size, and specific to a wooden boat.
How often does something like this need re-caulking? how many yards can
hall out a 60 footer for anti fouling?
Ive seen this boat on a website advertised for 95k firm, so i imagine
the reserve must be somewhere up around 80k+. Either that or the seller
is getting desperate ;-) Does something like this make any sense for a
person who wants a good usable boat and has no emotional attachment to
the design/material? There are a lot of big(ish) cruisers out there for
around 100k in different designs and materials.... Im thinking this is
the sort of boat that really only has appeal for its heritage and style?
Thanks,
Shaun
