new ways to kill yourself on water

Hi all,
Browsing ebay for the weird and wonderful, I came across this;

I may be way out of line here with my (lack of) knowledge of
hydroplanes, but doesnt this thing look like a death trap?  The shape
seems to be a wedge pointing downwards, my guess would be that at the
first little bit of swell or bump of a wave, this thing would dig in
at the bow and head straight for davie jones' locker....
