There are a lot of them in Sydney Harbour, I have seen a few around
Perth but never under sail. I believe they have a big active fleet on
Lake Macquarie.
I have heard them described as a 30ft dinghy, which pretty much covers
it. Fast planing hull, minimal accommodations, minimal ballast. At one
time I toyed with buying one for club racing - it would be fun to whip
the $30K boats with a $3K Diamond.
Hard-chined, usually plywood. If the hull is in good shape and there
is some life in the sails you can't go wrong. Just a new mainsail
would probably cost more than the boat. You want a pretty active crew.
