I asked the same question to a boat dealer. I priced a new Baja on
line, checked with a local US dealer and then called the CDN dealer. I
told the CDN dealer I preferred to buy in Canada so the profit would
stay in country, but I was not going to pay more than I would spend
cross border. (all costs factored in of course)
The CDN dealer agreed to be competitive, in fact. he also agreed to
deliver. Score a point for the CDN dealer.
Unlike cars, the CDN dealer can buy direct from the US manufacturer.
So he can be price competitive all the time he he choses to be. With
out strengthening dollar he sometimes has to slash prices, but he is
still making his profit margin because hhis replacement costs are
dropping.
FWIW, fall is always a good time to buy a boat, as it becomes a
buyer's market.
