Kayaking Peru Rivers 20D/19N
Description
Kayak in the magnificent Peruvian rivers, in the Highlands of the
Andes with our professional equipment and sup****t, run the classics:
Apurimac, Tambopata, Colca and Cotahuasi Rivers. Combined with a taste
of the Inca culture, during this trip you will visit the following
places: Lima, Lunahuana Ca=F1ete River, Arequipa - City Tour, Colca
Canyon, Tres Ca=F1ones - Hacienda Puente Central, Chuquicahuana - Cusco,
and Machupicchu. Rock Climbing Peru.
Itinerary:
DAY 1 LIMA
Arrival in Lima.. Transfer to Lunahuan=E1 (2 Hour trip), campsite, in
the afternoon we'll prepare for our next 3 day expedition on the
Ca=F1ete River.
DAY 2 CA=D1ETE RIVERS
This morning, we'll begin to climb the valley with our 4x4 vehicle
until 3,800 masl. or 12,160 ft., during the trip, we'll see some nice
rapids down the river that we'll run the next two days, after lunch
we'll begin to run the river, this time, we have class III rapids with
some drops, campsite in the shore of the river. (The car will be with
us the whole time).
DAY 3 CA=D1ETE RIVER - LUNAHUAN=C1 - CERRO AZUL
Alter breakfast, we'll continue paddling down the Ca=F1ete river, in the
afternoon, we'll arrive to Lunahuan=E1, then we'll take our car and go
to a campsite on the beach, also we can enjoy some sea surfing there.
DAY 4 CERRO AZUL - AREQUIPA
This day, we'll drive our car south to Arequipa, arriving there in the
afternoon, accommodations in a hotel.
DAY 5 AREQUIPA - CITY TOUR
In the morning, we'll run the Chilli river, is a narrow river with
rapids class III and IV, in the afternoon we'll take our car to Huambo
(The begin of the magic Colca Canyon), arriving there in the night,
campsite.


DAY 6 HUAMBO / COLCA CANYON
Early in the morning we load burros with our gear and begin the 15
kilometer hike down a narrow rugged trail to the river. The moderately
difficult 7 hour downhill hike affords dramatic views of the canyon.
In the late afternoon we reach the river and the small Indian
settlement of Canco (population: 5 families) where we set up camp.



DAY 7-12 RIO COLCA
For the next 6 days, we negotiate the most difficult and inaccessible
commercially run river canyon in the world. The scenery is magnificent
with massive geologically twisted walls towering above the angry
water. In many places giant boulders have fallen from the cliffs,
littering the canyon floor and forming numerous long, steep, technical
Class 4 and 5 rapids and at least one ****tage. The most difficult
rapids come a few days into the expedition so there is time to develop
the necessary teamwork in the rafts.
DAY 13 RIO COLCA - AREQUIPA
This morning we leave Colca Canyon and drive 3 hours back to Arequipa.
We arrive at the hotel in the early afternoon.
DAY 14 AREQUIPA - ANGOSTURA
This morning, we have our trip to Angostura; there we pass the famous
Apurimac River, considered the largest point from the Amazon's river,
campsite in the Angostura hot springs.
DAY 15 ANGOSTURA - TRES CA=D1ONES
After we set up our campsite, we'll take our kayaks and run the Alto
Apurimac class II and III (4,100 masl. or 13,120 ft.), until the 3
Canyons, campsite in the afternoon.
DAY 16 TRES CA=D1ONES - HACIENDA PUENTE CENTRAL
We'll continue running the Apurimac, for 3 more hours until the
Hacienda Puente Lodge, the car will be there already, in the
afternoon, we have a guided local villages visit (By horses), with our
local guide, in the night, we'll see some local traditions.
DAY 17 HACIENDA PUENTE CENTRAL - CHUQUICAHUANA - CUSCO
After breakfast, we'll take our car to go Cusco, on the way we'll
drive close to the Urubamba Valley, there in Chuquicahuana; we'll
again put our Kayaks in the river to enjoy the magical class III-IV
rapids. In the afternoon we'll in arrive to Cusco.
DAY 18 CUSCO - SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS
This day we'll visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas, after see the
Pisac market. We'll also go to Huar=E1n for other nice class IV rapids
on the Urubamba River, in the afternoon we'll visit the Ollantaytambo
Inca's fortress, hotel in Ollantaytambo.
DAY 19 OLLANTAYTAMBO - MACHUPICCHU - CUSCO
This morning, we'll leave the kayaks and take the train to
Machupicchu, we'll see the lost city of the Incas, go back to Cusco at
night, and transfer to the hotel.
DAY 20 CUSCO - LIMA
At midday we have to go to the air****t to take our flight to Lima,
once there, transfer to our hotel, at night we'll take our plane back
home.
