SPOT Emergency Beacon

Any experience or opinions on the SPOT beacon and service?

It covers all the areas I plan to sail and I like the idea of being able
to 
send messages to an intermediary ashore instead of an all or nothing panic

button that starts a full blown SAR exercise when you push it.
