I would sucpect it is the items required to have on board for your
size boat. What do the uscg or state rules say?

But back to philosophy.............. I know several boaters that carry
outdated/slightlyused/old parst as spares. When I bought my boat it
took eight monster garbage bags of junk off the boat. All really good
yardsale stuff but i figure space on a boat is scarce so why fill it
up with used ****. If i need a spare i keep a NEW space ready to go
not three used ones.

No doubt the origin of this pack rat syndrom is fromyour parents and
gp ....... who experienced the depression. You know, the cans of
screws and scrap lumber. "Ya never know when ya might need one of
these... heck a washer costs 5 cents... ! ! " As a designer i am sur
eyou relize much of "seaworthy" is philosophy and judgment.

My adivise is keep it simply. If its old toss it. If its dead burry
it. Besides your a rich R/V designer. Spend some of that money Roger!

Time to go back to tearing out more mast wiring. interesting, the wire
at the pannel and at the mast step jblock is nice new ancor wire.
Hidden in the recess between to the two on each conductor were 4-5
butt splices on 30 year old wire with green gook ozing out of the
plastic tape splice   :/

Not just the monetary value of the washer..... what about the inconvience
of 
running off to the nearest marine/hardware store and the gas used doing
so.
That 5 cent washer can end up costing $20.00 if your time is worth
anything.
