If paddling is declining in popularity I'd expect to see more used
boats on the market but this isn't happening. "Kayak for sale, 15 ft
solo with paddle, PFD. Used twice. Paid $1300, asking $600.obo."
Actually used to see more of these. There is a phenominum where people
hang onto their toys believing they will use them again when they
retire, or maybe pass then on to their kids. After all,they paid a lot
of money for them. Never happens. I've got two nice touring bicycles
from fellow baby boomers who finally put them out on garbage day after
they sat gathering dust in the basement or garage for years. I'm
stripping them down and repainting them for something to do. I took 5
bikes I rescued and fixed up to a charity bike sale last spring.
Waiting for some old kayaks to renovate. :)
