Before my knees gave out, I paddled a C1 and found it a lot easier on
the shoulders because you could switch sides, and also vary your
stroke type.  In a kayak you do the same stroke all day long on flat
water.  I did have a problem with chronic hip muscle inflammation that
hasn't bothered me since I only K1 now.
