Just Starting Out - Need recommendations for used Kayaks for all

by Dave <dave.merwin@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Aug 17, 2008 at 05:57 PM

My Grandfather just gave my family some cash for Kayaks! We are so
excited after paddling around Southern New Hamp****re for a week.

We are a family of 5... and we are looking for some model names for
some all purpose kayaks. My Son and My wife and I will all have
Kayaks. The youngest, 3 and 5 won't need one for a bit.

We want to be able to handle small surf, rivers , but no more than a
class 2, and lakes. We are looking to buy used, and I have no idea
what to get.

We are relatively active, and I am the heaviest at 200 lbs. We will
want to do day trips for now and will probably camp in a few years...
but by then we'll have fancy touring Kayaks!

As I said, we are looking to buy used, so brands and models would be
helpful. Also, we are in Eugene Oregon, so we have lots of options to
buy. I know we don't want white water boats, and I know 100lb touring
kayaks won't do it either. For brining the little kids, a relatively
wide cockpit would be cool. I think a 2 person kayak would be a bit
much. Maybe I am wrong. Also, I know that sit on Kayaks are not really
an option. The McKenzie is FREEZING!

Anyway, any tips you have would be awesome

Thanks for the advice.

Dave
