When we entered the Canyon the pilot told us to keep an eye out for
rafters. He was scared they would turn him in. We didn't see any.
He did do one stunt that had us *really* worried. As we were flying
above the river, with high cliffs on either side, we looked forward
and saw a cliff directly in our path. The pilot didn't say anything,
or warn us of what action he was going to take. My wife just closed
her eyes. I kept starring at the huge wall ru****ng towards us. At
the last second he did a tight right bank/turn and continued above the
river. It was just a turn of the river. I was very happy that we
finally got out of the Canyon.
A few weeks after our visit a DeHavilland Otter and a helicopter
collided in mid-air resulting in over 25 killed.
Shortly thereafter the government prohibited flights inside the rim.
