Starting pawl for Mariner 20HP

by "David Murray" <DavyMurray@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 4, 2007 at 09:00 AM

Hi There.

I've just returned from a fi****ng trip at Loch Etive - caught one Mackerel
!
My trusty Mariner failed to start for the return trip. I managed to drift
to
the shore where I was able to stabilize the boat and set about
investigating
the problem. I discovered that the spring operated pawl which engages with

the starter ring had worn and was failing to engage. Every time I pulled
the
start cord, it shot out without engaging the ring.
I finally managed to start the engine by manually turning the flywheel and

pu****ng a screwdriver through an access hole to trip the pawl.
This let me pull the engine round on the cord. It took a few attempts, but

when the engine fired I kept going until I got back to the launch site.

Does anyone have any ideas where I might look to get a new pawl?

P.S. My backup Seagull engine refused to start too. I'll need to service
it
too.

Cheers Davy M.
