Advice please re sailing in the North Yorks Area

by Tony Cook <theidiamin@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Mar 24, 2008 at 07:46 PM

I am looking to move to the Middlesbrough area from East Anglia for
family reason's - it's the only way I can afford to buy my daughter a
house and still be able to keep a roof over my own head.

Currently I am sailing a Bradwell 18 lifting keel cruiser which of
course is well suited to the muddy waters of the Thames. Also I know,
all too well, every mudbank between the North Foreland and Aldburgh.

Now though I am going into the unknown and that being so am seeking some
guidance.

If anyone could advise me as to sources for information re the location
and availability of potential moorings and whether it is possible to
proceed through the flood barrier across the Tees and thus reach the non
tidal upper ****tion of the river.

Whether it is practicable to have a lifting keel boat which has a
substantial stub keel and thus will not take the ground on an even keel
without legs or whether a change to a bilge keeler would be well advised.

In an ideal world I would like to be able to cruise the local inland
waterway's, which the shoal draft of the Bradwell would facilitate, as
well as access blue water for open sea cruising.

Is there a member of the group with local knowledge who would be
prepared to enlighten a southern savage?
