How else am I going to learn.

A subscriber to uk.rec.sailing was recently criticized in that group for 
posting a link to a chart on which he had drawn in a sketch of his tacks
up 
a coast. Another subscriber replied that he would be ashamed to post 
evidence of incompetence due to the incorrect and inefficient way the
sketch 
indicated the tacks were done. The original subscriber replied that he 
wasn't ashamed because how else could he learn unless he made mistakes.

I say to this sad case that his reply, though a typical ignorant liberal 
response, is wrong - all wrong. In case some of you readers have fallen
into 
this same trap there is another way - the right way. Allow me to explain 
further . . .

The right way to learn how to do anything is to first do some research.
This 
involves reading and understanding books by various authors who are 
considered experts. It involves doing using the Internet to further glean 
the facts and the rights and wrongs. It involves asking around at the
yacht 
clubs and docks. It involves being informed so that you can say you at
least 
looked before you leapt. You should strive to sail mistake free first
time, 
every time. Anything other than mistake-free sailing is unacceptable.

Embracing the method of going about a task willy nilly without a sound, 
informed plan and blundering around making mistake after mistake because
you 
think that's the right way to learn demonstrates how lacking in general
the 
educational process has become. Or, how stupid and compliant people have 
become because of the brainwa****ng they get in the liberal public
education 
system. In other words they're taught it's OK to be a blundering, inept, 
dangerous fool and that learning is a hit or miss process.

But go ahead and make learning from your mistakes your primary method of 
learning. Myself and others who don't subscribe to that folly will at
least 
get a good laugh out of your childish, amateur and pathetic efforts.

In rec.boats.cruising Skip Gundlach is a good example of amateur and 
pathetic efforts. In alt.sailing.asa Joe Butcher is the best example of
this 
I can think of.
