the (sometimes) interesting discussion on the English language
on
this NG, I commend to you all The English Project which is being sponsored

by the University of Winchester UK just down the road from me.

The truth is that English is no longer owned by the English/British, as it

has become the international language and is chganging rapidly in its
usage,

Apparently there are more Indians who speak English than Americans and
Brits together. After the Beijing Olympics, there will be more Chinese who

speak English than anyone else on the planet...

Consequently, we Brits are acknowledging this and have begun this living
museum, I quote from its aims,

Welcome to the English Project which aims to create, for the first time in

the English-speaking world, an innovatory ‘language exposition’ (or
'living
museum') where visitors - both physically and virtually – will be able to

explore the English language in all its vigorous complexity across time
and
geography.
Our Mission is straightforward. It is to deepen people’s understanding and

knowledge of the English language, its history and continuing development
so
that all English speakers everywhere can better appreciate, use and enjoy
it.
So everyone is welcome, wherever they come from geographically or
socially.
We will include all forms of English to reflect the amazing variety and
power and adaptability of the language – from the street and workplace to
science and advertising. There will be a core exhibition tracking the
broad
development of the language over the past 1500 years across the globe but
it
will be supplemented constantly by tem****ary exhibitions focused on
special
aspects and applications of English in, for example, pop music and
science,
law and love.
