Got the first part of my Day Skipper theory tomorrow. Have found a
question in an old paper and can't find an answer. I hope someone here
can help.
Lights: Oc. WRG. 10s 8m 5-3M
OK, so it's an occulting sector light, white, red and green, got that,
it's 8m above MHWS, and the white can be seen for 5 miles while the red
and green will be visible for 3 in good visibility. The part that has
got me is '10s', I can understand '10s' in the case of group flashing
(Fl(3) R 10s), but there's no number here, so is it on for, say, 7
seconds and then off for 3? Is that what it means? Surely, a light
that's on for (out of 10 seconds) less than 7 would be almost isophase
and therefore could cause confusion, and any light that's on for 8 or 9
seconds could be considered, in amongst the jumble of lights on the
shore, fixed and probably not a nav light at all.
Thank you for any light you can shed on this (no pun intended).
Justin.
